Hello, valued reader. Thank you for your time today. I hope you keep on coming back.
So let me begin by telling you that I never made it down for the first or second shoot for the TV Series of Guardians of the North. ‘Down’ as in down North. My amazing team went without me the first two times because I was busy being a bridesmaid in a good friend’s wedding on May 27th (which is the same day as my husband’s birthday by the way), and the second trip they all took to LaRonge (here in Saskatchewan) was when I was in Banff, Alberta attending the Banff World Media Festival, hoping to pitch a TV series to a couple of Broadcasters. But alas, that never happened. They do this thing where they hold a lottery where you submit your name and try to get a meeting with 10 different “buyers” and it really is just luck of the draw. My name was not picked so I was not able to pitch to anyone there that I was hoping to. I personally don’t think it’s a system that works very well as I have never been picked and I have been in this industry for a long time. So I don’t think I will be going again.
I DO think however that I might go to FIN Atlantic International Film Festival again. Now THAT Festival has it together. SUPER well organized, SUPER friendly, professional people, SUPERBLY laid out and easy to navigate AND I was able to pitch to all the people I hoped to. PLUS Nova Scotia is BEAUTIFUL! I love it there. I could live there. Hurricanes and all. Lol.
Anyhoo…all that aside, I was able to make it on this third trip to LaRonge. The team I work with on this show is stupendous. They are the kindest, hardest working people you will ever meet. Well not ever ever as there are other hardworking kind people in the world, but you can group this bunch right in there with the lot of them. It’s about a 6 hour drive from Regina, but the travel weather was great and makes for an ideal time to think about things and reflect and visualize. We were up there for 7 days and we captured some amazing footage. I won’t describe it because I don’t want to ruin it for the people who watch the show, but I will say the camera guys are pretty lucky when they get to fly in a Convair while it’s dropping smoke and loads of water!
I always say that being a film and television producer is the greatest job in the world, but I have often heard the fire fighters we film say that their job is the greatest in the world. When I sit back and think about all that they do, protecting people and their environment and all the excitement that comes along with it. I might have to agree!
