About Dawn.
Christian
This is a little ironic considering I was never raised in a Christian home. However, from the time I was 5 years old…I have always internally seen and felt this warm glow inside of me. Like a bright ball of light. Light and love. God is both and I carry Him with me everywhere I go. (But don’t get me wrong, I’m no angel…which is why I need God in my life, to help keep me on the straight and narrow!)
Writer
After I graduated from Highschool, I attended LongRidge Writers Group for 2 years and completed their writing course. I was big into poetry, so had some of my work published in a book called ‘Quiet Moments.’ I have written a number of things, none of which have been published, but the ultimate goal is to write Features or TV series…just need to find the time!
Artist
Initially I had dreamed of becoming a famous artist. I worked hard in art school and won the ‘Blue Ribbon Award’ for being one of the top 70 artists in North America, but shortly thereafter, a lifetime of my artwork was destroyed when the place I was storing it flooded with water. Heartbroken, I never drew again. Maybe one day when the time is right, I might see if I still got it.
Acting Coach
I spent time coaching actors for 14 years. Because of the success of my producing career and my limited availability, I chose to pass my acting coaching business on to another amazing acting coach who has the same ability to grow talent and help them succeed in this industry. From time to time I may offer the odd acting class, but my days of weekly coaching sessions are now gone.
Consultant
I offer consulting in just about every facet of the film industry. Whether it’s about acting, different crew positions, anything production related, budgets, marketing, grants, you name it…if people have questions, I have the answers and if I don’t have the answer I find out who does. This service is not free mind you. My time IS valuable after all!
Director
The first thing I ever directed was a television show for Shaw Cable called ‘Teen Zone.’ I was 15. It was a great experience. I directed some theatre gigs here and there and then a group of us got together over a decade ago and created a fun Youtube series. Picture a really bad Prairie Province version of Kids in the Hall and you get ‘Over the Fence.’ I directed 24 episodes. But it’s time to get serious and direct some things I’m proud to show off!
Bowler
I have been bowling for as long as I can remember. Threw a pretty accurate ball at around Mach 5. Joke! But the team used to tease me and tell me to slow it down to at least Mach 3. I quit bowling after my arm surgery and tried again years later, and then waited another 10 years and tried again. I’m starting to get better…it all came down to re-training and I think with a little more time, I’ll be even better than I was when I was at my best!
Pool Player
NOT billiards. I used to be in a pool league and was a darn good shot. I don’t play anymore, but I do enjoy the odd game here and there when I happen to see a pool table kicking around.
Martial Artist
Back in my twenties, I took home a dozen medals competing in Taekwondo tournaments. My greatest achievement was when I took Gold for Canada in sparring. My goal was to make it the Worlds, win gold and then star in a Martial Arts movie! But alas, due to an unfortunate accident that resulted in shoulder surgery, I never made it to the Worlds. Serves me right for falling off the stage while playing Rapunzel in a Pantomime!
